Official Title: Experimental Methods in Structural Engineering

Description: This course emphasizes two main themes:

Data collection from structural components & systems

    • Learn/Review different modeling techniques (physics-based & data-driven)
    • Conduct laboratory experiments (test methods, instrumentation, data acquisition, control, … etc.) for different damage states (from service to ultimate)
    • Conduct field tests for structural health monitoring

Data analytics using classical & modern tools

    • Uncertainty qualification
    • Uncertainty propagation through performance-based engineering framework
    • Machine & deep learning

Additional themes:

    • Learn about holistic design approaches (resiliency & sustainability)
    • Learn about optimization (e.g. linear programming) & multi-criteria decision-making techniques including lifecycle analysis

A unique overarching theme:

    • Perform hands-on laboratory (physical & virtual) and field tests
